Built to Work. Built to Last. Oilskin Canvas was originally developed roughly 700 years ago by North Sea fishermen as Sea Sail Cloth. Some of the roughest waters in the World. It is water-repellent, amazingly tough, with a life expectancy measured in decades. Aussie Wool is water-repellant, flame retardant, virtually indestructible, with a life expectancy measured in decades. You can wear your Coolamon® out, but you’ll have a great time along the way.
What is a Coolamon®? ... Coolamon is an Anglicized version of an Aboriginal Australian name for vessels used to gather and carry food and water. The First Australians began making Coolamons by carving a piece of bark from select trees; shaping and curing it over a fire; to create a bowl-shaped carriers.
Our 21st Century Coolamons® carry forward the Australian tradition of blending the best of Mother Nature with human ingenuity to allow you to Experience a Slice of the No Worries Life.
Sheer Simplicity ... Australian Wool is an Active insulator. Meaning that the fiber itself adopts the temperature of its immediate environment and actively works to retain that temperature. Water repellant, yet vapor absorbent, Aussie Wool absorbs the temperature from the vapor coming off your drink, creating a thermal lock. As your drink warms (or cools) the Wool releases the stored cold (or hot) back into the cooler to extend the enjoyable life of your beverage.
How good is Aussie Wool? You don’t see sheep shivering in the fields. This is why we say that your Coolamon Coolers are simply Mother Nature at her very best.
Sheer Performance ... Aussie Wool is extremely durable, making it particularly well suited for rugged, repeated use applications. Aussie Wool is more durable than synthetic and other natural fibers. When paired with ultra-tough Oilskin Canvas, your Woolamai Too Wine Cooler has a life expectancy measured in decades, not mere months or years. First sip to last, your Woolamai Too will keep your bottles at the desired temperature, and will sustain the fun for years to come.
Today’s largely petroleum-based, man-made insulators, simply create a passive temperature barrier. Doing nothing more than keeping one temperature on the inside of the barrier and another temperature on the outside. Worse yet, the soft-sided, synthetic fiber coolers, lose whatever insulating capacity they have when the fibers get wet — say, from ice or condensation — and never fully recover when they dry. Wool retains 100% of its thermal properties wet or dry.Sheer Sustainability ... Australian Wool is organic, abundant, renewable, and sustainable. In addition to outperforming and outlasting man-made insulators, Wool is biodegradable and compostable, offering environmental benefits to the ecosystem. Man can simulate Nature, but we cannot replicate it. When it comes to finding the best insulator on the planet, there is nothing better than Mother Nature at her very best.
Sheer Genius ... The genesis of these great ice-free coolers can be traced back to the great Wool surplus of the 1990’s. Barbi & Leigh Hemming produced Wool blankets, Wool outerwear, and other Life Accessories on the Sunshine Coast of Australia. Concerned for their Rancher friends Barbi & Leigh began searching for new uses for Aussie Wool. In a stroke of genius, they asked themselves: “We use wool to keep people warm, can we use wool to keep things cold?”
The Couple set out in hopes of creating a soft-sided cooler which would keep ice frozen longer than traditional ice-box coolers. Little did they know, until the completion of the original Australian Cooler Bag that they had created a cooler which does not require ice.
